PROGRAM INFORMATION

Why do a vocational course in New Zealand?

In New Zealand, the term VET is not used, as that is Australian. Here, courses are Certificates and Diplomas within the NZQCF, the national qualifications framework, and they are delivered by polytechnic institutes and private training establishments (PTEs), not universities. They are practical and employment-oriented programs. The advantage over a language course is clear: a Level 4 or higher course automatically brings a part-time work permit of up to 25 hours per week during the study period, and those lasting a full academic year include full-time work during holidays. New Zealand stands out above all in hospitality, business, IT, and early childhood education, and most courses last from six months to two years.

The work comes with the course.

A vocational course at level 4 or above gives you part-time work rights from the start, with no minimum-weeks barrier. You train in a sector where New Zealand hires: hospitality, business, IT, early childhood education. And you can work up to 25 hours a week alongside it, full-time during holidays if your course runs a full academic year. When you finish, you step up to a higher-level course and keep moving.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

What everyone asks us on the first call.

Can I work while doing a vocational course in New Zealand?

Yes, and more easily than with a language course. A vocational course at NZQCF level 4 or above comes with automatic part-time work rights: up to 25 hours a week during term. If the course also runs a full academic year, you can work full-time during the holidays too. There's no minimum-length barrier like the one on short English courses.

For most vocational courses the school runs its own English test. Higher diplomas may ask for an IELTS of around 5.5. If you're not there yet, we set up an English course first and link it to the vocational one.

Yes, and it's the most common combination. Most people start with an English course to reach the level the school asks for, then move straight into the vocational course within the same visa plan. We help you define the combination and the full calendar on the free call.

You can step up to a higher-level course, from a Certificate to a Diploma or a Postgraduate Diploma, and keep studying in New Zealand by renewing your student visa for each new course. Every step builds your CV. We plan what fits with you on the first call.
